Following a Divisional Round full of upsets there has been lots of change on the Super Bowl futures odds this week.
After three of four games last week ended in upsets three of the top four teams from last week’s Super Bowl futures, Green Bay, Buffalo and Tampa Bay, are all out. They only favorite to win last week, the Kansas City Chiefs are now the Super Bowl favorites at +125. That’s up from +400 a week ago Their AFC Championship Game opponents, the Cincinnati Bengal are getting the worst odds right now at +800.
Don’t immediately count the Bengals out. Cincinnati is hot right now having won five of their last six games, and that one loss was a meaningless game in Week 18 when they rested many starters. Cincinnati has also won six of their last eight games on the road. Perhaps most importantly, in Week 17 the Bengals defeated the Chiefs 34-31 as a 3.5-point home underdog.
Sandwiched in between the Chiefs and Bengals on the Super Bowl futures are the Los Angeles Rams at +210 and the San Francisco 49ers at +450. Much like the Bengals, the 49ers are no slouches this week as 3.5-point underdogs versus the Rams.
The 49ers have already delivered a pair of upset wins in the playoffs with road victories over Dallas and Green Bay. San Francisco has seemingly put it all together late in the season with four straight wins, a 6-1 record in their last seven and a 9-2 record in their last 11 games.
The key trend may be that San Francisco has owned the Rams for years. This season the 49ers were 2-0 against the Rams, and they were the underdog in both games. Overall they’ve won six straight against the Rams, and they’re 7-2 in their last nine road games against them.
