When the team projected as a possible 16-0 team visits the team projected as a possible 0-16 team, it doesn’t take a book-making genius to conclude the point spread might be large in that game.
And of course the point spread is big – the biggest ever in NFL history if the current New England Patriots number of -19.5 holds in their visit to Miami in Week 2.
The Patriots have been the biggest road chalk in history, with the -19 at Baltimore during their 16-0 season in 2007 as the benchmark.
But with the Dolphins looking terrible in Week 1 and the Patriots looking dominant, oddsmakers are not taking any chance with chalk bettors. The biggest spread will probably end up being at Bovada, which skews towards underdog lines.
Another one-sided matchup – on paper at least – is in Baltimore where the Ravens were awesome in Week 1 and opened as 13-point home chalk to Arizona. The Cardinals looked great for one quarter, but shitty for three quarters and remain one of the longest shots on the Super Bowl futures board.
If your Week 2 betting style is to back teams that had poor performances in Week 1, you are looking at the Steelers -4 at home to Seattle and the Falcons +1.5 at home to Philly. Cleveland -2.5 at the Jets and the Bears -2.5 at Denver also fit this mold.
