Totals Could be the Way to Go in Super Bowl 47

Super Bowl23As Super Bowl 47 approaches, football bettors are working even harder than usual. It is one thing to beat the sportsbooks during the NFL regular season, but quite another to come away with cash on the biggest single betting event in the United States.
The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers meet Sunday, February 3 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The 49ers are currently favored by four points at Bovada. The total dropped from an opening of 49 to 47.5.
If you are going to bet on Super Bowl 47, it might be a good idea to check back often.
Generally speaking, no two fans are alike. On Super Sunday, some bettors will be focusing on the spread or the moneyline while others will be looking for valuable Prop bets. Many players however will be sticking with totals.
Trending Low
If you are looking for an advantage when it comes to placing your totals wager, consider that the under has cashed in six of the last eight Super Bowl games. During the past few years, the NFL has changed rules in hopes of driving up scoring. The public has since come to expect shootouts like the recent AFC Divisional game in which the Ravens beat the Broncos 38-35.
The last three NFL Championship games had closing lines of 55, 57 and 53, which happen to represent the three highest lines ever for a Super Bowl game. The old adage of defense wins championship hold true and especially with these two teams who have made a habit of playing smash mouth football. When playoff time rolls around, dominant defenses tend to have their way with opposing offenses.
Despite their defensive abilities both teams actually trended to the over this season. The Ravens were 9-7 and the 49ers 9-6-1 to the over during the regular season. Both teams have picked up their respective offenses in the postseason. Baltimore is averaging 30 points per game in its three outings while San Francisco outscored the Packers and Falcons by a combined 73-55 en route to the SB.
Memory Lane
This will be the 10th time that New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl, the first since 1992. Several classic games and teams have enjoyed some shining moments at the Superdome most notably the 1996 Packers (Brett Favre), the 1989 49ers (Joe Montana) and the 1985 Bears (The Fridge) among them. The last time there was a Super Bowl in New Orleans, Adam Vinatieri kicked a winning field goal as the Patriots stunned the Rams and Kurt Warner in 1992.
Title Game Trivia
As you know, this is the final game in the 17-year career of Ray Lewis. During his rookie year of 1996, Lewis recorded his first career sack against a hotshot quarterback with the Colts. The guy’s name was Jim Harbaugh.
